You have a pet that loves “doing their business” on the carpet or a toddler that spills all kinds of stuff around. Or perhaps you do not have enough time to vacuum your carpet regularly – either way you may soon notice an unpleasant smell in your room.
Do not worry, you can deal with the problem much quicker than you think, and you do not need some overpriced detergent for the job. Here is my quick and easy-to-make recipe for an all-natural carpet deodoriser that will refresh the air at home instantly.
1 c. baking soda
1/2 c. borax (DO NOT mistake it with boric acid, this is a salt-like substance)
1/4 c. coarse cornmeal
10-15 drops of grapefruit essential oil or lavender oil (or any essential oil for that matter – you pick the scent you prefer).
Take a plastic or a glass bowl and put the main ingredients in it – start with the baking soda, and then add the borax and cornmeal consequently. Stir well until you get a perfect mixture, then add the essential oil and stir again – voila, you have your deodorant ready!
Vacuum the carpet and then sprinkle the mixture over it liberally – make sure your pets do not trample all over the area while you are treating it. The best time of the day to do it would be in the evening – you can leave the carpet with the deodorant overnight, and then carefully vacuum it again in the morning.
